Air Traffic on India-US Sector Registers Record Growth

Eight major airports of India together have clocked around 25 percent growth in the number of passengers handled during the first six months of the year 2007. While the growth in domestic passengers handled in these airports was 28.1 percent, the same with regard to the international passengers was about 16%. In comparison, the growth in the entire Asia Pacific market during the same period was a negligible 7.9%. Interestingly, the growth in passenger traffic was more visible in the tier II city airports rather than the saturated metro airports of Delhi and Mumbai. However, these two airports, considered as the two gateway airports, still handles bulk of the air traffic in the country-more than 50%. In the first six months of the current year, these airports together handled 55% of the traffic, i.e., 23.9 million.
